I gave a talk this morning at CoDA (Codependents Anonymous). It was fun to revisit all the ways we can get trapped into trying to take care of things for which we are not responsible. Caregiving is a pitfall for codependence -- where we focus so much on the person for whom we are providing care, that we neglect our own self care. I want to thank my daughter for helping me see how much I had fallen into that abyss. Be careful, fellow caregivers, to meet your owns needs. |
This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
