I have a tendency to isolate myself when overwhelmed. How do you cope with being overwhelmed by caregiving and all the tasks that make up one's life? Good friends are one antidote, and - being an introvert - I tend for a few, very close friends to a large number of acquaintances. To help me cope, I choose friends who talk about positive matters - even when talking about serious matters, who support me, who listen, who laugh, who have fun. This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
