"People often find some difficulty in caring for themselves, in receiving love, in believing they deserve to be happy." Sharon Salzberg
Salzberg, a very respected teacher of meditation suggests we start by taking delight in our own goodness. So, how can we be kinder to ourselves? I recommend that we never put ourselves down in word or in thought. We can take that even further and celebrate our successes with those people in our life capable of celebrating them with us (not everyone is). Thinking of ourselves as if we are our very best friend, and treating ourselves like we would treat that friend, is a good practice. Thinking of things you love and enjoy, and then planning them in your schedule is practicing kindness toward ourselves. Today, let us do at least one kind thing for ourselves.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
