A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.

Varied Alertness
Even after all these years, my loved one's varied alertness is still unsettling to me. He was very alert when I was there yesterday, unlike the previous day. When he is alert, is more likely when he will ask when he is coming home. I try to remember what Mayo Clinic said about his frontal lobe dementia preventing him from recognizing his cognitive decline, but it is still hard to hear him demand unrealistic settings. Even the men on staff now use a lift to move him from wheelchair to toilet, etc. There is no way he could be managed at home, and he does not realize that or accept that. Is that hard for you too?
