As I have observed the progression of this disease of dementia, I have been struck by its periods of plateaus and sudden declines. We have been in what seems like a plateau for many weeks -- where he seemed about the same day to day. We have now had a sudden decline. I'm not sure if that is because influenza A is sweeping the care facility or if this is a new norm. Whichever it is, it is very sobering for me. He is weak, in bed, dullness in his eyes. So sad. It seems like the light of the essence of who a person is - is dimming with the progression of this disease."The only value any truth has is in the degree of its realization." Joel Goldsmith
This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
