Lowering Cost of Namenda

  1. "Namenda is a drug commonly prescribed for people with dementia." NBC news
Tonight's news had good news for those of us paying for Namenda.  Our personal out-of-pocket cost that are not covered by prescription insurance is about $500 a month.  The makers of Namenda, Forest Lab, attempted to take Namenda off the market -- before their patent expires and competitors can provide a cheaper generic form -- in an effort to force patients to a new, and still-patented, drug they make.  Forest Lab made $1.5 million dollars on Namenda last year, so it is high stakes for them.  But in a rare action a judge has ruled that Forest Lab cannot take Namenda off the market and try to force patients to a different, expensive drug they make.  Good news for us which we will want to follow.
