"At heart, hospitality is a helping across a threshold." Ivan Illich
As caregivers, aren't we helping someone cross a threshold? Especially if you are a caregiver for someone with a terminal illness, but even if you are caregiver for a small child -- what we are doing is supporting someone to cross the threshold. It could be the threshold of death, or the threshold of independence, or the threshold of living with constant pain. At heart, we who are caregivers are extending hospitality.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
