I was talking with a friend who is providing caregiving to her mother, along with two siblings. It was so familiar. The insistence from the mother that she will not go into a facility, the expectation from the mother that the children should put their lives aside and care for her, the limited options available. I was able to correct some of her misconceptions and give her support during this difficult phase of her life. How are you doing with caregiving? Do you have enough support?
This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
