"The only value any truth has is in the degree of its realization." Joel Goldsmith
Much research has been done that suggests that our lives are largely shaped by our beliefs. We have all heard people say, "It's flu season, and I always get the flu." Perhaps they do not realize that simply by believing they will get the flu, they will get it. New Age thought seemed to take that to the other extreme --- of telling oneself something (that we will get a new Ford Explorer), and that will materialize. This often did not work -- because we did not believe it, as much as we would have liked to. Our beliefs are most often unconscious, so we do not know what we believe -- unless we look around in our lives and then we will see the evidence of our beliefs. What is your belief about being a caregiver to someone with a terminal illness? What messages did you get as a child that shape the way you provide caregiving? It is worth considering because then we will be living our lives by what we want, not by beliefs we do not even realize we have.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
