"The stuff of our lives doesn't change. It is we who change in relation to it." Molly Vass
Are you tempted sometimes, as I am, to think that your life will be able to happen once you are not caregiving? Does it feel sometimes like you are in a place where your energy and focus is going toward another person's journey, and not your own? I think it is human, and therefore appropriate, to think those thoughts sometimes. But, the truth is, the real 'stuff' of life -- dealing with the themes of life -- are ever present. We might be caregiving because we have always had a tendency to look out for others' needs before our own, or because it is a distraction from what we really need to tend to in our own inner life. Rather than thinking of caregiving as an obstacle toward our life's goals; what if we think of caregiving as an avenue to deal with what is ours to deal with.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
