"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." Lao Tzu
As caregivers, does it seem to you that there are not enough hours in a day to get done all you need to do? I have been thinking that I need to get started doing our income taxes, but so far I have not gotten started. Part of our time as caregivers is spent sorting out bills and payments related to the care of our loved one, part is spent spending time with our loved one, and part of our time might be in working to earn money to pay for the care of our loved one. We wear many hats as caregivers, and we can feel pressed to do a lot quickly; but if we take the wisdom in Lao Tzu's quote above, perhaps we are better off not hurrying. It is probably true that we will get done what we need to get done, and perhaps what does not get done is not that important. We are human, after all, and as such have a finite amount of time and energy. Let us choose well how to spend that time and energy. And, please, let us not forget to spend part of that energy on behalf of the quality of our own lives.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
