"Medicare announced plans to reimburse doctors for conversations with patients about whether and how they would want to be kept alive if they became too sick to speak for themselves." Wall Street Journal
This might seem macabre, but it is important. Currently, we have to seek an attorney to develop a plan about how we want our end of life to look, and that probably will not change; but under the proposal, we would discuss openly with our doctor our options and preferences. It is a step in the right direction. If you do not have advance directives created, it is a good idea to do so. Only we know what we prefer to happen should we become too ill to speak for ourselves. As caregivers, we are bound morally to do what our loved one has requested.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
