"The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time." Mark Twain
I am not sure what Twain says is true. Most people seem afraid of dying, and that makes sense -- because we have no idea, really, what happens after that. Religions can tell us what they believe will occur, but we do not know for sure. My loved one is now on pain medication all the time. I have mixed feelings. He is not any longer complaining of pain in various locations, but he is not as lucid either. Perhaps it is not the dying we fear so much, as the process of dying.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
