"Confidence comes from the Latin word, confidere, which means fidelity. Fidelity to oneself is the basis of self confidence." Mark Nepo
Brene Brown says much the same -- we worry too much about what others might say or think of us, when, the only important thing is what we think about ourselves and what those who love us think about us. We will stifle ourselves if we worry about what others think about how we are providing care to our loved ones. It is, truly, none of their business; and, most assuredly, those people who criticize are also the ones not present doing the caregiving themselves. Let us not concern ourselves with others' opinions. Let us make our decisions for ourselves and our loved ones out of love and respect, and be at peace with those decisions.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
