"Caregiving for dementia is the most challenging type of caregiving." Richard Schulz, psychiatrist
40% of caregivers for dementia suffer from depression, according to Richard Schulz, psychiatrist. He describes it as "the most negatively impactful and challenging type of caregiving. The symptoms are constantly in front of you, and that takes a toll." Schulz is professor of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. I agree. Caregiving for someone with dementia is extremely difficult, and all of us who are caregivers find ourselves enveloped in sadness at times.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
