"Nothing new can enter your life without gratitude." Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith
I think that is true. Without gratitude, we will recycle the same old things. When we meet people who are in the same stories or dramas in their lives, it might be because they are focused on those stories and dramas and not on gratitude for what is good in their lives. There is always good. Even for those of us caregiving someone with dementia, there is good. There is the kind email from a friend which brightens our day. There is the moment of lucidity when we feel a real connection with our loved one. There is a moment with a grandchild which delights our hearts. There is the invitation to dinner from a daughter. There is a phone call from a son. There is good. It is our choice whether to focus on it or not. What we focus on will multiply.

This blog is written to provide information and support to persons who are providing care for someone with dementia. A first indicator of dementia is when someone has trouble doing a task once familiar and easy for them. If you have begun to be concerned about someone's memory or cognitive processing, help the person receive a physical exam, to include lab work, and an appointment with a neuropsychologist for an evaluation of memory and cognitive processing.
